Medication and Children

I read an article about children being medicated when they show signs of behavioral issues.
I do not agree with this, children act upon what they see or have been taught. In a lot of different situations children are exposed to drugs, violence, and physical and mental abuse.

Many doctors want to throw these kids on medications that they do not need when in all reality all they need is love and affection. Many kids just want attention and to feel like they belong. When parents are not in some of these children's lives like they should be they will act out n school and they will continue to do this until they find the love they deserve.

I thik that some of these doctors in todays society really need to re-evaluate their diagnosis.
Children that really dont need to be put on medications need to be able to see a counselor for their issues and this starts from the family that raises them. We have to focus on the basic problems before we can get to the bigger problems.

I suffer from a disease called addiction, must people consider this to be a choice but I see it as something that I will never be able to get rid of. I have 4 years clean from all substances but I will everyday continue to fight this disease off, like cancer I have medicines that help me. Except my medicine consists of meeting, a support group, and God whom I choose to call me higher power.

Statistics read that drug abuse and addiction have negative consequences for individuals and for society. Estimates of the total overall costs of substance abuse in the United States, including productivity and health- and crime-related costs, exceed $600 billion annually. This includes approximately $193 billion for illicit drugs,1 $193 billion for tobacco,2 and $235 billion for alcohol.3 As staggering as these numbers are, they do not fully describe the breadth of destructive public health and safety implications of drug abuse and addiction, such as family disintegration, loss of employment, failure in school, domestic violence, and child abuse.

I believe all this to be true because I suffered many consequences from my addiction I lost family friends and myself. Drug addiction is something I would never wish upon anyone it took my life and made me someone I was never suppose to be.
